Little Artist's

This class is designed to help your little toddler(s) to advance their creative minds in a space where parent and child can engage in creative activities while bonding. Exploration of colour theory, texture, different art mediums and more! This course will provide your toddler with a detailed understanding of art, and form a strong foundation for them to begin their artistic journey. This class is not to be confused with an arts and crafts course, toddlers will explore lessons in a fun and creative way.

Every year we will feature an artist who will share their style and practice with the public. This will be a unique opportunity for students to learn something new and have exposure to specialized art approaches from professional artists in the field.

Intro to Art

Travel through time and learn about the master artists that shaped and changed the art world with amazing and innovative masterpieces that we still admire and love today. Students will cover important art terms and techniques. Each class will cover an art period accompanied by an art piece. This class is for beginners with little to no art experience.

 Kit required. All drawing & painting, surfaces and clays are included.

 Drawing & Painting 

As one of our more extensive art classes, we have combined these amazing traditional art mediums. Students will use different types of painting and drawing medias to create a variety of compositions. For the first half, students will learn painting and then drawing the second half. Portraiture, still-life and landscape will be mainly explored.

​All drawing/painting surfaces and clays are included. Kits are required.

Exploring Acrylics

This is an introduction course that will cover a variety of techniques and terms. Acrylics is a versatile material widely used in contemporary art. The diversity in acrylics allows artists to create different styles, all you need is a little imagination. Students will create a painting that will use some or all studies explored in class each week. If you love making art that is multi-functional, this is the class for you!

All painting surfaces are included.

Exploring Oils

This is an introduction course where students will become more comfortable in properly using oils. Students will learn techniques ranging from easy to advanced applications. This course will provide a strong foundation for using oils, providing students with more than just a mere overview. The end results will show in the art pieces!

Watercolour & Gouache

Immerse yourself in the meditative qualities of painting with water. Both watercolour and gouache share similar and different properties. We've combined these amazing medias into one awesome class! The course is divided in two parts. Students will learn how to prepare paper for pigment applications, and create beautiful landscapes/portraits.

Glitter Painting

This course was inspired by the works of artist Rene Garcia, Jr.,whose known to create painterly art with just glitter. Students will have the opportunity to create their own rendering using Garcia's style and truly dazzle their audience. Through detailed instruction students will learn to plan and transfer their ideas into brilliant works!

All art materials included. No kit required.

Figurative Painting

This class explores human anatomy, where students will learn to draw from life. The body will be studied through various painting exercises that range from 30 minutes to 3 hour painting sessions. Students will learn human anatomy, light and shadow, body proportions and mapping a painting pencil free. At the end of the course students will have a collection of studies.

Figurative Drawing

This class focuses on drawing the human figure, learning about anatomy and portraiture. This class is perfect for those who wish to practice and improve their drawing skills. In a range of structured exercises varying from short gestures to sustained poses, the principles of composition, proportion and volume are explored through line, tone, light and shadow. Students are taught about measuring, reference point, hatching, contour drawing and so much more!

Students of younger ages will reference clothed models. Students aged 15-17 will require parental permission for nude models.

Drawing Animals

Do you wish to create a portrait of a favourite animal or beloved pet, but the idea of drawing fur is overwhelming? This class will take the stress off and help build your confidence through detailed lessons. Once you learn tricks and continuous practice through various sketch studies, you will be able to draw every furry friend you love! Remember practice makes perfect and take home exercises will be required.

Drawing surfaces provided. Kit required. Pre-requisite Intro to Art.

Encaustics

Discover a new way of painting! The word encaustic comes from Greek and means to “burn in”, which refers to the process of fusing the paint. Encaustic is a paint composed of beeswax,  damar resin and pigments. The term “Encaustic” is often used to describe both the paint itself, and the method for using it. Students will explore this mediums versatility through popular techniques.

Intro to Sculpture

This is an introduction class designed to include all skill levels. Students will learn to sculpt a 3D object through perspective, proportion, material properties, and using sculpting tools.  Students will design their own pieces and re-create it through clay. Students are encouraged to take their time when planning their designs, taking into consideration every detail and angle. This class is for those who love working with clay and 3-dimensional form.

Figurative Sculpting 
Learn how to create life sculptures through various exercises and activities. Students will learn how to prep clay and proper handling of the material. Students will learn proportion, using sculpting tools, details and anatomy by viewing life models.

Felt Art

This class is for those who love working with fibres and want to try something new. This class is perfect for those looking to add a unique touch to their portfolio. Students will transform sheets of coloured felt into beautiful graphic designs. Each class will feature a different design in order to highlight the multifaceted qualities of felt from flat to dimensional forms. This will be beautiful art you can touch!

All supplies included.

Fashion Illustration

This is a beginners class for those who want to experiment with innovative design methods. Students will learn how to convert trimmings into new art. A combination of traditional materials (pencil crayons, markers, etc.) and non-traditional materials(paperclips, buttons, etc.) will be combined to create beautiful dimensional fashion designs. Story boarding and fashion terms will be covered. This course was build on the idea to ignite imagination and perfect for those who love designing, creating art and want to have fun!

Intro to Illustration

Students will learn to create work that can be attached to any form of literature or storyline. Illustration is defined as a visual representation to provide emphasis or to accentuate a particular text. At the end of the class students will have learned how to convert an idea into a final piece, and know that patience and focus will provide a strong foundation for their work.

Cartoons

We all have a cartoon character that we love and probably tried to render many times. Thats the magic illustrations give us. Students will learn how to draw their favourite cartoons through step-by-step instructions. An overview on basic anatomy and terms will be covered.

Portfolio
From Start to Finish & Beyond...

Our portfolio classes are designed for students to become a part of a growing supportive group of future artists aspiring to attend post-secondary education in their desired fields just like themselves. Whether it's your first or last portfolio piece, we are here to help. There will always be a seat for you in our portfolio classes. Director Elizabeth will set up a schedule for every student which must be followed in order to raise the admission success of our students. Everything can be achieved, but we must put in the hard-work. Book your spot and get started today!

A consultation for portfolio are mandatory before registration. Please note available dates and times may change in each term. Please contact academy for more information. The dates and times listed are for the current term.

Portfolio A

Portfolio A is for those that wish to attend an arts focused high school. Students as young as age 7 should start building their portfolios, in order to prevent last minute stress and providing a variety of artwork options.
We will help guide each student through the process, devoting personalized time between teacher and student. Depending on the level of artistic skill and timing of application some students may require extra classes. Homework is to be expected in all portfolio related classes.

Portfolio B is for those who wish to attend a fine arts Institute, College, and/or University. With small classes each student will have better tailored assistance. Depending on the level of artistic skill and timing of application some students will require extra classes. ALL STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR YEAR-END CEREMONY ART SHOW! WHICH RUNS JUNE 20-22. PUBLIC ACCESS WILL BE GRANTED DURING THE EXHIBIT GIVING STUDENT ART EXPOSURE AND SALE OPPORTUNITIES:D!
​STUDENTS WILL NEED TO APPLY THEIR WORK WITH A FORM THAT CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE ACADEMY. SUBMISSIONS ARE FREE.
