Make a Splash at your next dinner party!

Let's face it, novelty objects are the so much fun, and I love myself a great theme party. Growing up, creativity was not just fuelled in art class, i applied in the most when throwing a party-which is why I love birthdays so much. Thank God for my mama bear who always let me decorate and plan my themes, it was truly annual event. I just got back from my Floridian vacation and let's just say all my January crafts are inspired by summer. I cannot wait try making disney ears! Stay tuned for that its going to be a magical experience- at least I hope so lol. Regardless I really enjoy the process of learning and well this one has been on my mind for a while.

Okay! I just side tracked but there is always room for Disney- am i right?

Let's jump right back in our super simple and fun coasters!
What you will need:
Picture
Supplies needed and not pictured, Coasters, I used cork material ones I found at the dollarama and also available at A Dollar Store with More. Paint, paint brushes, paper towel, palette paper, water container.

Step 1: using a pencil or sharpie draw polka dots

Picture
I used circles but any desired design is great too. Be creative as possible.

Step 2: Paint or Colour in design

Glue a picture of water on-top of your cork coaster and seal with modge podge, once paint is dry apply a thin layer of top coat modge podge to your float. This will help with water resistance. Using gorilla glue attach the foam ring onto the coaster and let dry.

Complete.

Now to try new cocktail recipes!

Paper Roll Flower Painting

Spring Flowers in January?

You got that right! Feeling the need for hot weather, beach days and flower power, well we got a few months before we get some dirt under our nails but in the meanwhile we'll definitely be creating our own sunshine in the studio.

This activity is perfect for motor skills, scissor practice and stencil introduction.

Here's what you will need:
Picture

Step 1: Outline the pedals

Cut paper roll into 7, 0.5" strips. I used a pom pom for the centre bulb, that will help you place the pedals in a uniformed circle much better than doing it free-hand.
Picture

Step 2: Once traced, paint petals

In order not to get petals mixed up. You can number each petal with its corresponding outline and erase afterwards.
Picture

Step 3: Glue down paper roll & decorate .

If regular glue doesn't stick properly, use hot glue gun. Hot glue must be handles by adult. I used a marker to draw the stem and construction paper for the leaves. The butterflies are made from dyed dry pasta I did in an older art project.
Picture

Done!

There is nothing like painting flowers on a cold winter day, who is ready for warm weather and starting their gardening prep? I know I am!

What type of flowers are you thinking of planting this spring?

Happy Creating Artist's!

The Soaring Butterfly...

It's a new year which means new inspiration, lots of motivation and a whole lot of art making. I felt it was well suited to start with a butterfly inspired art project because of the beautiful symbol it holds. I love butterflies and use it as a prominent symbol in my personal art practice, because it is a symbol of change, courage and the beauty of evolving.

This art piece is simple, vibrant and a lot of fun to recreate.
